Frequently Asked Questions

  • First, you’ll connect with us via the online form, phone, text, or email. You can also request an initial consultation or appointment online. We’ll reach out to you within 2 business days through your preferred contact method. We can schedule a short consultation call if you’d like, or we can answer questions through text and email.

When you decide that you’d like to move forward, we’ll create your Simple Practice profile (this is our electronic health record system). From there, you’ll complete all your intake forms, review our availability, and request your first session. Simple Practice is available online and through their phone app, which makes it really easy to access.

Before your first session, you’re welcome to reach out with questions via text, email, or through secure messaging in Simple Practice. If you need to reschedule your session, please let us know at least 24 hours before session to avoid the cancellation fee.

  • Therapy offers a unique, safe space where you can explore your concerns without fear of judgment, allowing you to express your thoughts and feelings openly. In this environment, you'll find the empowerment needed to make real changes in your life and increase your self-awareness. Your therapist meets you exactly where you are, honoring the fact that you are the expert on your own life. This collaborative approach fosters personal growth and encourages positive transformation, helping you navigate challenges and achieve your goals with confidence.

  • If you're here reading this, it suggests that part of you is ready to explore therapy and address your current concerns. The journey to self-discovery and healing begins with a willingness to engage collaboratively in the process. There's no perfect moment to start; the best time is simply now. We meet you right where you're at, ready to support you as you build self-awareness and navigate your unique path forward.

  • It's totally normal to feel nervous before your first session. We want to share a little about ourself and how we work with individuals, as well as what you can expect when we meet. We'll ask you some questions to get to know your background and what brought you to counseling. You'll also have a chance to ask any questions or voice concerns you might have about the process. Our aim is to make our time together feel more like a conversation than a formal interview.

  • You can choose to schedule sessions weekly, biweekly, or monthly based on what feels best for you. Many individuals start with weekly sessions for the initial few weeks to build a strong foundation, then gradually move to biweekly appointments as they progress. We’ll explore your preferences and needs during our first session, but the final choice of the schedule is entirely yours. Your comfort and readiness are our highest priorities.

  • Yes, we do! Please schedule a consultation to discuss the sliding fee spots available; spots are limited. Sliding fee rates begin at 50% of the session cost and increase to the full cost of session. For example, the session fee for a standard 50 minute session begins at $75 and increases from that amount. We offer a limited number of sliding fee slots on the honor system. Sliding fee rates will be re-evaluated every 6 months. Additionally, the Open Path Psychotherapy Collective is a resource that offers therapy sessions at a sliding fee rate of $30-70 per session.

***Sliding scale spots are full as of 4/3/26***

  • We do not accept insurance but do offer sliding fee spots on our caseload to alleviate the burden of therapy costs. We did not make this decision lightly, but have learned over the years how restricting insurance can be for individuals and ourselves as providers. For example, insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis, which will remain in your health records and could impact your future care. Your insurance company has access to all session notes and treatment plans, which can pose privacy concerns for many people, especially those in marginalized communities. Insurance companies also dictate whether your therapy sessions are medically necessary (and if not, they can choose to not cover the costs), what treatment methods should be used in your therapy, and how many sessions you can attend. Not only does this significantly limit individuals and the type of therapy they need, but it also limits the provider in the types of therapy they can provide. Insurance companies reimburse providers at almost half the rate of the full session cost, which limits the provider’s ability to offer more in person time slots, engage in professional trainings and conferences to keep up to date with research, and can prevent therapy materials and products from being purchased. We understand the challenges of accessing mental health services and have chosen to not accept insurance for the above reasons.
